“MATOSINHOS CARBON NEUTRALITY 2030”: BUSINESSMEN MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL

In November 2023, another work session took place in the context of “Matosinhos Neutralidade Carbónica 2030” project, in the Council House Great Hall of Matosinhos Municipality. In this session, representatives from the industry sector were listened to, namely, Super Bock, Mota-Engil, APDL – Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo Administration S.A, Fundínio and Germen. This session is one of a series which aim to gather more contributes, by community engagement, to develop the strategy of Matosinhos Roadmap to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030.

The Roadmap, approved in Municipal Assembly and which will be available now for Public Consultation, relies on five priority actions to the municipality: Local Authorities Involvement, Incentives and Financing, Sustainable Mobility, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.

Measures included in Matosinhos Roadmap to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030:
Concerning the involvement of Local Actors, we enhance some projects as the One-Stop-Shop for integrated services “Matosinhos Energy Hub, the Citizen Laboratory for the Climate Transition, Innovation Atelier and SECAP (Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan) Local Council Advising.
In the Incentives and Financing topic, the tax benefits are under evaluation (namely the Municipal Tax on Property Code), along with incentives for renewable energy production and access to financial support in programmes, such as, BluAct, Net Zero Cities, Living Lab, Atelier, among others.
Considering Energy Efficiency, the municipality has been working on the energy renovation of the residential and municipal buildings, along with public lightning, renewable energy production by photovoltaic systems in municipal buildings, and purchase of 100% renewable energy.
The Electric Sustainability measures are focused on electric mobility and loading posts, in the new metro line towards S. Mamede de Infesta and in the transport network UNIR.
Up to now, it is in course the implementation of 68 measures, enhancing the transport area and energy renovation of industry and buildings.

In this session, additional National and European Financing Programmes were presented, aiming for the decarbonisation of industry and hydrogen and renewable energy systems application, along with some funding schemes made available by the banking sector to capacitate the companies for the energy transition.
