“ASCEND” project presentation to the Executive and Municipal Ecosystem
2024-05-17
Porto Energy Agency (AdEPorto), as leader of the national consortium of the "ASCEND" project, made up of the main local partners Porto Water and Energy Company (AEdP), Porto Digital Association (APD) and Serralves Foundation, presented on 12th April to the Executive and the Municipal Ecosystem the results achieved one year after the launch of this Horizon Europe project, as well as the main challenges and future objectives. The event took place in the premises of the Porto Innovation Hub and gathered over 30 participants.
The main objective of the "ASCEND Accelerate Positive Clean Energy Districts" project is to accelerate the establishment of Positive Clean Energy Districts - PCED - contributing to the achievement of carbon neutrality by the participating cities. The international consortium is led by SPL Lyon Confluence and includes more than 39 partners from 14 European countries.
PORTO PCED ASCEND
Porto is one of the multiplier 6 cities, which also includes two "lighthouse" cities, Lyon and Munich, and is working on the implementation of a PCED, following 6 Solution Packages - SP. This project aims not only to mitigate climate change, but also to create more inclusive, resilient and smart cities.
Porto PCED's area of intervention is in Lordelo do Ouro and includes 7 neighbourhoods, 4 schools and several municipal facilities, as well as the Serralves Foundation. This area already has an installed capacity of 68 kWp of photovoltaic energy production (promoted by Porto Solar), and the objective is to increase this PV production in 2024 by installing more solar panels in other municipal buildings.
These initiatives and investments, already developed in Lordelo do Ouro in the context of the "ASCEND" project, reinforce Porto's objectives to achieve carbon neutrality and in the international consortium, actively contributing to the ambitious replication and scaling-up of PCEDs for all the European Union and associated countries.
The presentation allowed for a discussion of potential synergies, with a questionnaire open until 3 May to collect additional contributions that could add value and widen the scope of the "ASCEND" project.
“ASCEND” is an European project financed by the Horizon Europe Programme [101096571 — ASCEND — HORIZON-MISS-2021-CIT-02].
