INTERMUNICIPAL ENERGY COMMUNITY: AN INITIATIVE BY LIPOR OF A WASTE-TO-ENERGY SYSTEM FOR THE SHARING OF THE ELECTRICITY PRODUCED

2024-02-16

On January 11th, the new Intermunicipal Energy Community was presented, in the Waste-to-Energy Facility of LIPOR.

The initiative promoted by LIPOR and its associated municipalities, and which counts already with the accession of other municipalities and institution geographically contiguous to the area of operation of LIPOR, pretends to produce and share electricity through a waste-to-energy process in LIPOR facilities, providing these community members environmental, economic, and social benefits.

The establishment of this community will allow the sharing of decentralised clean and renewable energy, costs reduction with energy (without investment), reduction of GEE emissions, to contribute for the national and European goals for the decarbonisation and also ensure the achievement of the objectives and targets of the acceding municipalities, according to Covenant of Mayors on Energy and Climate Action.
By contributing to the local, national, and European commitments for the decarbonisation, LIPOR and the acceding entities, take another step towards Energy Transition.
